8pm Update

Hitlist is empty! Let’s put some milestones up there!

Biz Dev went to get coffee - fill-in reports two models explored, both broad and vertical. The numbers on the broad play won out. Wow, knowledge-based decision-making at its best!

Design - getting navigation worked out - may have a template complete within the half-hour

Dev - at 7pm, did a post-mortem of previous 8 hrs while having dinner. Found out who knows what (maybe wish we already have the product in play!) . Starting to hear more about functional specs so can figure out how to move forward.

Marketing - competitive analysis done, still working on financial models. Putting finishing touches on the pitch.  Also have a press release completed and ready to send out to major local media outlets tonight with the hope to get someone out tomorrow for coverage.

Falling Behind…

Any falling behind that’s happening right now seems to be primarily on my part for not keeping up with the blogging. More than an hour ago, a Dev guy was explaining to me that they felt they had the data model all worked out and were well on their way to making the payment system usable too.

About then, I got pulled into a PR conversation and when my advice based on all the years I spent in broadcast journalism started making people’s eyes glaze over, we all realized maybe it would be helpful to have me actually doing some of the things needed for that piece of the startup puzzle. Okay… I’m cool with that.

One way or another I’ll get to both the blogging and the PR work I’m diving into. The rest of the room continues to hum.

New Name

After a quick vote between runner-up SkillMash and newcomer SkillBit, the group has had it’s first overwhelming majority (that I can tell) in choosing SkillBit - where the bit is intended to represent a tool that is lean and simple to use.

Some are contending the need for a name change was divine intervention or karmic retribution or some such thing to keep us from using a name that would cause irreparable harm. Mostly it’s just nice to see so much more energy around the new name.

skillbit ™ it is…

Comedy Meets Tragedy

We’ve uncovered a trademark infringement problem with our chosen name. Bummer. Well sort of. Some folks actually cheered at the news.

On a more humorous and quite likely positive note, the as-yet-to-be-officially-named-entity that is Startup Weekend Seattle is already the proud owner of a fistful of domains based on that name.

So - we’re in the market to sell some domains. Could be our first revenue before we even have any code to show for it!

Elevator Pitch

So what is it, exactly, that we’re building? We’re so glad you asked!

People and their unique skills running business; nothing less nothing more. Our system provides the only way to efficiently collect, organize and make use of your company’s human assets. Basically, you may know me, but you don’t know what I know.

What do you think? Kinda cool, eh? Once you get over the concerns that you may meet your demise due to an overabundance of Snaps, of course.
